Elementary Teacher
Opportunity Description
The teacher shall prayerfully help students learn attitudes, skills, and content matter that contributes to their development as mature, responsible Christian citizens to the praise and glory of God. Teachers teach content assigned using curriculum, technology, supplementary materials, field trips, special guests, etc., to expand students’ learning experiences. The teacher shall be a born-again college graduate with a bachelor’s degree, certified or certifiable, who feels called of God to the teaching profession.
Role Responsibilities:
- Reflects the purpose of the school which is to honor Christ in every class and activity
- Motivates students to accept God’s gift of salvation and helps them grow in their faith through
their witness and Christian role modeling - Cooperates with administration in implementing all policies and procedures governing the operation of the school
- Integrates biblical principles and the Christian philosophy of education throughout the curriculum and activities
- Provides appropriate SUPERVISION and discipline on/off school premises for a good learning environment
- Maintains a clean, attractive, well-ordered classroom
- Plans broadly using objectives and weekly lesson plans maintained one week ahead
- Plans and supervises a grade-level appropriate reading program that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students, challenging each to do his/her best work
- Utilizes research-based teaching strategies and interventions to achieve curriculum goals within the framework of the school’s philosophy
- Employs a variety of instructional aids, methods, and materials that will provide creative teaching to reach the whole child: spiritual, physical, social, and emotional
- Plans through approved channels for the use of field trips, guest speakers, and other media
- Uses homework effectively for review, enrichment, or project work
- Assesses student learning gains and learner outcomes regularly and provides progress reports as required
- Maintains regular and accurate attendance and grade records
- Keeps students, parents, and administration informed of student progress or deficiencies and
gives sufficient notice of failure - Represents the school in a favorable and professional manner to the school’s constituency and the public
- Develops positive rapport with students, parents, and staff by treating them with friendliness, dignity, and consideration
- Follows the Matthew 18 Principle during times of conflict resolution with students, parents, staff, and administration
- Seeks counsel from superiors, colleagues, and parents while maintaining a teachable spirit
- Attends and participates in scheduled devotional, in-service, retreats, committee, faculty, and Parent meetings as designated
- Knows the procedures for dealing with issues of an emergency nature
- Informs the administrator in a timely manner if unable to fulfill any duty assigned
- Prepares adequate information and materials for a substitute teacher
- Supervises extracurricular activities, organizations, and outings assigned
- Utilizes educational opportunities and evaluation processes for professional growth
- Provides input and constructive recommendations for administrative and managerial functions in the school
- Supports the broader program of the school by attending extracurricular activities when possible
- Performs any other duties that may be assigned by administration
- Provides after school support for students as needed (elementary) or as requested by students
or parents - Participates in morning devotions
- Joins other meetings as assigned including evening programs if involving his or her students
- Performs supervisory duty in extended school before and/or after school as assigned
- Attends teacher / staff meetings
- Is available to any parents or students who wish to have a conference before or after school
- Is responsible for daily and end-of-year cleaning of classroom areas
- Carries out any additional specific duties as assigned
- Holds and documents conferences with parents of each student
- Inventories classroom equipment/supplies/books
- Maintains appropriate records (lesson plans and grade books) and communicates necessary information to students, parents, colleagues, the principal, or authorities
- Maintains proper classroom discipline, taking care of minor problems and referring major problems to the principal
- Organizes students’ permanent files
- Plans and prepares attractive bulletin boards for classroom(s) and assigned area(s)
- Plans and prepares stimulating lessons
- Plans parties at designated holidays (elementary)
- Prepares report cards four times a year
- Records attendance daily in computer data system and teacher plan books
- Reports repair need to administration promptly
- Secures highest level of certification with League of Christian Schools or FL Department of Education
- Submits paperwork as assigned or requested
- Submits to end-of-year evaluation
- Supervises extracurricular activities, organizations, outings assigned
- Takes courses to remove deficiencies within the time frame of the initial certification
- Reports abuse of children to the proper authorities as required by CLA’s Ethical Policy & Faculty Policy Manual and the State of Florida
Qualifications and Skills:
- Has received Jesus Christ as personal Savior and believes that the Bible is God’s Word and standard for faith and daily living
- Is in whole-hearted agreement with the school’s Statement of Faith and Christian philosophy of education
- Is a Christian role model in attitude, speech, and actions toward others. This includes being committed to God’s biblical standards for sexual conduct (Luke 6:40)
- Is a member in good standing at a local evangelical church that has a Statement of Faith in
agreement with the school’s Statement of Faith - Shows by example the importance of Scripture study and memorization, prayer, witnessing, and unity in the Body of Christ
- Possesses the spiritual maturity, academic ability, and personal leadership qualities to train up a child in the way he should go
- Recognizes the role of parents as primarily responsible before God for their children’s education and is prepared to assist them in that task
- Demonstrates the character qualities of enthusiasm, courtesy, flexibility, integrity, gratitude,
kindness, self-control, perseverance, and punctuality - Meets everyday stress with emotional stability, objectivity, and optimism
- Maintains a personal appearance that is a Christian role model of cleanliness, modesty, good
taste, and agreement with school policy - Uses Standard English in written and oral communication and speaks with clear articulation
- Respectfully submits and is loyal to constituted authority
- Notifies administration of any policy he/she is unable to support
- Refuses to use or circulate confidential information inappropriately
- Places his/her teaching ministry ahead of other jobs or volunteer activities
- Makes every effort to appreciate and understand the uniqueness of the community
